New Belly Dance & Yoga Class Starting Soon!

Scarf Dance Flyer

New 6-week classes start this Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Mystic River Dance Studio in Memphis!

In the belly dance class, we’ll be learning a beautiful scarf choreography by Shahna of little Rock.  The music is Lei Khalinee Ahbelk.  It requires two narrow silk scarves (about 3 inches wide by 3 feet in length). We’ll have scarves on hand to borrow or for purchase at the start of the class.  The dance features lane changes, cascades, mirroring a partner and other group formations.

The yoga + pilates focuses on mind-body awareness.  We’ll focus on toning core muscles, breath work, concentration and balance.  Each class ends with a relaxation exercise.

If you have questions or want to register, contact Valentina at graceflowyoga@aol.com

A Peculiar, yet Strangely Compelling Dance/AcroYoga Sort of Thing

There’s so much going on here that I don’t know where to begin commenting. A TEDTalk with no talking! I love the creativity and experimentation. It’s like Cirque du Soleil meets Tarzan Lord of the Jungle meets The Blue Man Group. The strength and control in the execution of movements is stunning.   Check out the form of locomotion that happens at 6:18…how fun does that look??

What I Love about Belly Dance

Here we have an Argentinian man teaching Middle Eastern dance to Chinese women.

…and that pretty much sums it up.

Thank you Oscar Flores for sharing this beautiful artform today! And thank you to the Sisters of the Phoenix for organizing the workshop.
